Juanita Soerakoesoemah as Event Director of FHI 2023, delivered a welcoming speech at the Opening Ceremony of FHI 2023 in conjunction with Hotelex Indonesia and Finefood Indonesia, incorporating Retail Indonesia. She highlighted that FHI is a form of PT Pamerindo Indonesia’s commitment to accelerating sustainable growth of hospitality and F&B industries in Indonesia.
“Previously, we held FHI every two years. However, in 2023, FHI returns after only a year and officially becomes an annual exhibition, considering its success in 2022 gathered 32 thousand visitors, including hundreds of exhibitor companies. Upon the 17th edition, FHI 2023 brings business networks to over 750 exhibiting companies consisting of more than 450 local (national) and 300 overseas companies from 30 countries/regions,” she explained.
Juanita further elaborated that as the leading and prominent hospitality and F&B trade exhibition in Southeast Asia, FHI can give wide access for business owners and professionals to various suppliers of products and services in these industries. “FHI has become a platform to expand the businesses market and improve competitiveness in the global market, thus advancing domestic industry, especially after the pandemic,” she said.
Ministry of Finance aims for the national economic growth in 2023 to range from 5.3-5.9%, above the target of 5.2% in 2022. In line with that, revenue in the F&B sector is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2021-2025) of 10.79%, resulting in a projected market volume of USD 4,346 million in 2025 which makes it a thriving and lucrative market for foreign companies and investors.
Similar to the previous event, FHI 2023 presents various product categories needed by business owners in the hospitality and F&B industries, whether local (national) product or from other countries. Among the categories are bakery, pastry & gelato, dairy, food ingredients, frozen food, halal, vegan, natural & organic, meat, seafood, processed food, snacks & confectionery, coffee & tea, drinks, beers, wine-spirit & alcoholic drink, foodservice equipment, foodservice & technology, hospitality design & supplies, dan hospitality technology. Marketing Communication Manager of FHI 2023, Leonarita Hutama, added that numerous competitions and captivating events in FHI 2023 are aimed to support the sustainable growth of Indonesia’s hospitality and F&B industries. “FHI goes beyond a trade exhibition. It is a learning platform for the industries’ business players and practitioners to accelerating their sustainable business growth,” she commented.
Leona also mentioned that some other associations and institutions, including the Indonesia Hotel General Manager Association (IHGMA), BULOG and APEDA, ALLAS, BINUS University, and LPPOM MUI, are also joining FHI 2023 to present many interesting and relevant seminars. Last but not least, FHI 2023 provides access to business networking through FHI Business Matching Programme, FHI TV Programme, and many more.
FHI 2023 and Sustainability
The theme of this year’s FHI is “Counteract the Environmental Impact through Sustainability Towards the Global Market”. It supports sustainable business growth through innovations to the global market while accelerating positive impacts on the environment through sustainability movements.
According to Garna Sobhara Swara, Chairman of IHGMA Chapter Jakarta, the concept of sustainability in hospitality will be mandatory for all hotel management. “This concept (sustainability) must have a long-term investment value that can gain tourist loyalty, build hotel management’s reputation, save operational costs, develop relationships with local communities, and form good management,” he expounded.
He further believes that tourists now prefer hotels with consistent commitments to being environmentally friendly, conserving energy, and using local products, implying being part of the sustainability industry (Ecogreen Hotel, Eco Suites, and Green Hotel Association).
Thus, FHI in collaboration with IHGMA facilitates discussion regarding sustainability in hospitality, with a seminar under the title of “Accelerate Sustainability in Hotel Operation”. Besides that, there is also a seminar about how to start zero waste business for the hospitality and F&B sectors (“Bisnis F&B dan Hospitality jadi #ZeroWaste Mulai dari Mana?”), held together with ALLAS.
Leona then added FHI is poised to become a catalyst for sustainable practices as it unites numerous brands that champion sustainability and offer eco-friendly products and services. “We will bring together forward-thinking participants committed to environmental responsibility, from organic food suppliers to energy-efficient solutions and waste reduction initiatives. FHI will provide a platform for showcasing sustainable innovations that promote a greener future in the F&B and hospitality industries in Indonesia,” she concluded.
Upon its opening day, FHI 2023 is flooded with thousands of visitors that have pre-registered themselves online for four-day unlimited access to the exhibition. The number of visitors is expected to keep increasing, as walk-in visitors can also do on-the-spot registration by simply doing online registration at the entrance of JIEXPO, which will be available until the last day of the exhibition on 28 July 2023.
